    I heard Bill's name mentioned many times. My Dad, Keith Chamberlin, Venice, CA, collected Hudsons. He had 13 Hudsons at one time. He sold Bill Albright his favorite Hudson, a 38 Hudson, Custom 8 Series. He always regretted selling it.

    Thanks for all your comments! After all these years, i've started a complete upgrade on the Beast. Because of the world wide pandemic, custom speed and aftermarket parts took almost 2 years to acquire.I'm about 70% complete on the build. Suspension, tires/wheels, stroker 340 engine, 2004R trans, cooling system, beefed up electrical, all new fuel/oil/trans lines, and fuel cell. i really enjoy fabrication, so it's almost completely garage built!

    The owner is just a mite confused here . Chevrolet didn't make a Biscayne wagon until 1962 . The '59-'60 two door wagons were named Brookwood , also the "B" pillars on those were straight up and down just like the sedan delivery had , Caminos had pillars that were angled . The bed floor and wheel tubs , and the tailgate is the only sheet metal behind the firewall that is interchangeable with a wagon . Even in 1959 Caminos came stock with Delco air shocks and were rated at a half ton of payload , same as the 1964 and newer Caminos and hey were marketed , and sold as trucks . And they are supposed to be licensed as trucks .

    This seems to be an older post on the Javelin AMX and I am some what late in replying to it. I listened to the gentleman talk of his Javelin AMX and I have a couple of comments to add, as some others with knowledge have already. I am an original owner of a 1973 Javelin AMX. I ordered mine the second week of March of 73, it took 6 weeks to build and ship to, Art Post Rambler in Kalamazoo Mi. I took delivery of it the last week of April of 73. This is how I ordered my 1973 Javelin AMX. Exterior color is gold metal flake Cordoba Brown with all black vinyl interior. The 401 Go Pac that had the functional cowl induction, 4-speed manual with console, hood T-stripe in gold and fades to black,. Inside hood release, power steering ( this was an $106.00 option, all tinted glass, the light group, motorola a/m f/m 4 speaker stereo,( this was a $195.00 option. Outside scuff molding , 3.91 rear gears and under the front bumper spoiler. The Amx stickered at $4371.90 The go pac option which got the functional cowl induction, was a $476.25 option. Of the total 1971 to 1973 Javelin Amx's built, which amounted to 10,490. Only 2,622 of those or 25% of the AMX's built, were ordered with the Go-Pac option. One could not get the functional cowl induction on any of the 4980, 1974 AMX's built with the Go-Pac option That makes the functional cowl induction a rare option. By the way, it has been stated that the amx's that have the cowl induction, can expect an additional 5% to 7% horse power gain, as that's how well it worked over the regular hood scoop. A couple of comments as to the gentlemans remarks. the power steering was only a $106.00 option, not really a power steeler. The under the front bumper spoiler appears to be an add on, as it would have come painted the same color as the body and not black. I have all of my original paper work from when I ordered my Javelin AMX new, and it came in weighing at 3380# must be the power steering option that makes mine weigh so much more than his. He has a nice AMX and seems to be taken care of.

      I’m happy to see you still have that car. From what I know, the 401 in 73 was rated at 255 horsepower and I forgot the torque rating. Do you think your car would beat a 73 through 74 Super Duty Trans Am?

    • @phantomblott1
      @phantomblott1 8 місяців тому

      The Pontiac S. D. 455 and Amc's 401engine are two completly different designed engines, for two different applications. The 455 engine of Pontiac, is just short of a full race engine. The AMC 401 was designed for no more than being a passenger car engine. Too many differences to list here, you can Google and read all about the mighty S. D. 455 engine. The 455 was very capable of 440 gross horse in the S. D. Pontiac Trans Am. AMC's 401 engine was at it's best some say, at around 355 gross horse with a 10.2 compression in early 1971. A head change with more volume, a compression drop to 9.5 mid year, it was now close the stated 330 gross horse rating. 1972 brought even less horse power for the 401 using the new net rating. The 401 for 1972 was now rated at 255 net horse power, but with another compression drop to 8.5 for the year using dish pistons and the small port intake, it was really close to 245 net, and not the 255 as stated. 1973 was even worse, retarted ignition again for emmisions along with an even more restricted redesigned intake for the new e.g.r. valve mandate. Horse power was still rated at 255 net, but really just at 230 net at best. 1974 brought another compression drop to 8.25 and finally the 401 was rated at 235 net, but was really at an anemic 215 horse power. Other things took away even more horse power. The Air Enjection that manual transmission equiped cars had to have did very little at best to lower emissions. Any benifit of the dog leg heads and free flow exhaust was completly lost. With an air pump that blew outside air through stainless steel tubes, entering through the exhaust manifold, traveling all the way to just short of each exhaust valve. With a 5 lb air boost to disrupt and interfear with the out going exhaust. One can subtract another 1 horse power per cylinder with this worthless system. AMC was not alone here in the race to take away horse power. To answer the question of, would a 73 401 engine beat a Super Duty Trans Am? I think one would already know the out come.
